Besides "Mac" I earned a nickname similar to skullcrusher's. It is Brain Damage. It was last summer during an open terrain maneuver that turned bad. We were crossing a road and none of us saw that there was a ditch running along the road. We were doing 45 mph straight at the road when right at the last second my BC yelled through the headset, "Mac, STOP" I stood on the brakes just as the track was angling into the ditch. The forward momentum made the track's nose dig into the opposite embankment even harder. I hit my head against the top of the hatch, threw the crunchies against the turret door and scoped my gunner so bad that he got a gash across his nose and a double black eye. I woke up several hours later in the battalion aid station with a concussion. They had said that I was conscious the whole time until I got to the BAS where I took a nap. They also said that I swung on a 2nd Lt. who tried to wake me up but I don't remember it. I got put on a driving profile for five days and was told to be careful of my head because the brain would be soft for a few days. That is when my gunner started calling me brain damage.

"My dear boy, I love hearing my relations abused. It is the only thing that makes me put up with them at all. Relations are simply a tedious pack of people, who havenít got the remotest knowledge of how to live, nor the smallest instinct about when to die."
