Don't army rangers see more action than marines? Don't the marines only have marine force recon for special operations?

The army is the bigger branch and does longer deployments, so yes, they do generally see more action. But, I have friends now who have spent a total of about 8 years accumulated in country with the Marines. Is that not enough?

There's an old saying, "Any man who wants to go to war is either a liar or a fool". Don't get in such a hurry.

And again, with the Marine Corps being the smallest branch, yes, they have only Force Recon. But, there is also FAST. They're similar to FBI's HRT.

You're obviously someone who wants to run to the sound of the cannons. I commend you for that.

Something you may want to consider...

Economics are going to demand that the US Military be downsized. Overseas bases are going to have to be shut down. The Army is probably going to suffer the most out of this process. What is left is going to have to be fast, mobile, and be able to project American power around the globe without large, forward established bases.

I expect within the next 10 years, we will see much more of the responsibility for military projection fall on the shoulders of the Navy and the Marine Corps.

And you don't like flying? WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU?

Bear in mind also that the Air force has Pararescue Jumpers and Forward controllers that get the same training as any other SpecOps troops. These guys jump in with Special Forces, and are an integral part of the team.

The PJs are trained as both medics and "trigger pullers" for rescue missions.

BM...

Questions like these are the reason vets have such little patience for civilians.

You are doing your homework and trying to decide which branch will best suit your interests... Which is fine... However...

Service is not about "action"... and when taken in context, "action" boils down to brief moments of terror that you hope you'll be lucky enough to survive.

Service IS about HONOR and INTEGRITY.
Service IS about ALLWAYS doing the right thing in preparation for "action".
Service IS about years of enduring physical, mental, and environmental challenges.

Service, regardless of MOS, is about having the discilpline to deal with years of monotonus and often painful tasks through training cycle after training cycle and not developing a "short timers" attitude.

I hope you'll print out all of the responses to this thread and save them. I can guarantee that "if you enlist"... 4 or 5 years from now... as your contemplating whether oe not to re- enlist... You'll read this again and fully grasp what I am saying.

Good points, Tack.

And "service" is performed by the cook in the mess hall, the clerk typist, the MP at the gate, and even the general's driver.

Everyone who wears the uniform and does his assigned duty is serving, and IMHO, a hero.

Wanna know who I respect the most, as a group? Navy Corpsmen who go green. I can't even explain why, but if you've been there, you know.

Why don't you wait till you turn 18 to ask these questions . And quit wasting our time on here. Cause I guarantee in about another month you will start another thread stating the exact same thing. Like you have before.
If you don't like flying then you won't be going to any SF schools.
