I was born too late. I really wanted to be in the Mounted Calvary. With my luck I would have ended up in the 7th at the Little Big Horn!!

The nice thing about the USMC is every Marine is a rifleman! I was contract infantry and wouldn't have had it any other way. If you pass the Indoc you can go to Recon and do all the stuff you want to do. If you don't pass hey at least you are still a Devil Dog which isn't too shabby. Good Luck to you whatever you decide.

If I wanted to be special forces, would I have a better shot at joining if im a army ranger or a marine?
I meant I dont like flying as in I dont want to be a pilot. I have always wanted to go sky diving.

Special Forces (SF) is Army. Special Operations Forces (SOF) use all the various elite 'branches'. Special Forces require some disposition to learning and speaking foreign languages. How are you with Klingon? The others, not so much.

You may find this link enlightening:

You may find this forum useful:

And here's another list of who does what in SOF:

Im still not sure what I like more, army or marines. However like one of you suggested (tack i think) I could enlist as an unassigned ranger.

Yes you could... As I stated, it should guarantee that you get Airborne school and RIP after you complete Basic Training and AIT.

The benefit is that the gut check of RIP comes while you're still at Ft. Benning and still in peak physical condition.

It is up to you to make sure the contract you sign reflects your agreement with your recruiter... don't take his word for it.

Tack
