MY novice criteria is as follows (doesn't matter for men or women):

A reliable handgun preferably chambered in 9mm.
As big as possible that I can conceal properly.
As slim and as heavy as possible.

Some of these might seem conflicting but they are not.

Have you looked at the CZ83? I have one or order from Impact. It's slimmer than most 9mm semi-auto polymer guns, has a good heft, and is a 9mm Well, 9x18, but still a 9mm...

I would love to have a BHP but not as a CCW. I need smaller and thinking more of PPS.
