If I was in the market, I would look long and hard at Ruger's LC9... It is a 9mm that is only slightly larger than their LCP. I would say the LCP but I have not had any confidence in .380's ability to really drop an attacker. The 9mm rounds seem to pack a good deal more knockdown without much more noise, kick, or cost...

A Ruger LCR is a fine choice, another is a the S&W air weight line. I have a 642 (Changed out the stocks to better fit my hand), there are several other available including the Ladysmith.
