In aviation, there is a 8 hour bottle to throttle rule. No alcohol 8 hours previous to jumping in the cockpit. I recommend a similar guideline with firearms.

When I was getting my S.E.L. my instructor told us the same thing. Amen. Dominus Ominus.

My shooting buddies and I might have a beer AFTER we shoot, when the guns are put away, but never before or during the shooting. I am of the opinion that a loaded firearm should be handled with due care. I am also one of those who think alcohol and guns don't mix.

beer is great.. guns are great.. beer and guns are bad...my family and i oftenhave get togethers and sometimes will grab onne of my uncles many many firearms and say hey i havent shot this before can i? he says did you drink anything yet? i myself have always followed the no booze before or during shooting/hunting. one time i got placed with a few "friends" for a drive.. i watched them each have a beer before they started driving. as i was a stander... ive never been back to hunt with them since. and on that hunt i was prone almost the whole time... they are good bythemselfs. horrible together..

This reminds me of my friends.

Is it possible for people to have a good time without alcohol?

This is a really touchy thing for me. Why can't shooting just be enough?

I am not much of a drinker. I dont have a problem with people that indulge. However, if I do have a drink, the gun gets put away. I understand drinking a beer or two while camping. I would not be doing any shooting though.

Booze at any level is when a you quit handling firearms. How hard is that to understand, I'd type slower but it wouldn't help.
