My biggest objection to bars was the great number of normally nice, friendly people that get very aggressive and totally obnoxious after a few beers.

You got that right. It is one reason I quit drinking; I was one of them.

I just hated being around slobbering drunks that were one hiccup away from hurling who knows what out of their guts.

Those are the people that should have enough human decency to not drink. If you can't handle alcohol, stay human and sober.

Maybe its a genetic thing, or maturity, but I don't understand why alcohol does that to people. When I drink I get giggly and relaxed.

confession is good for the soul. or so they say!

i pretty much quit drinking many years ago. i didn't like the person i was when i drank too much. granted, i never was a falling down, slobbering drunk by any means, but i did drink quite a bit back then.

and the less i started drinking, and noticing the people around me, the less i wanted to be around those people. after a certain point, it became, "why the **** am i hanging out here?" the majority of the people are drinking and acting like idiots. so not long after i started decreasing my alcohol intake, i got to where i stopped hanging out at the bar. then i pretty much tapered off alcohol altogether. i enjoy a rare occasional drink now and again, but that's about it.

One of my buddies got the nickname "5 Beer Fighter" after he tried to decapitate me with a logging chain. Some people just shouldnt touch alcohol.

I enjoy the Texas bars. My Son in Law and I still have a good time in Dallas. Some high end bourbon and smoked quail? Gees! now that is good. As Willie Nelson says, there are a lot more old drunks then old doctors.
