I smoked cigarettes that cost 24 cents a pack, and a gallon of Ethyl was 21 cents. There were actually driveway attendants (AKA: Pump Jockeys) and GAS WARS!

All during high school (68-72) there were two gas stations right near that were in a continual price war. I paid 19 cents a gallon during these formative years.

And yes, 8 tracks were the cat's meow - loved how the tapes changed tracks in the middle of a song. I drove a 1965 powder blue Plymouth Fury 2 door with vinyl bench seats, manual steering and of course no A/C. It had a 383 4 bbl and 3 on the tree. Eventually scrounged up enough $$$ to put a Hurst floor shifter in it - dang that thing would run...

At 15 I had a Honda S-65 (65cc - 5 HP) motorcycle, it got 165 MPG! Gas cost $0.25/gallon. A quarter ($0.25) could get me around everywhere I wanted to go all week long! Later in high school (I graduated in 1971) I worked at several gas stations to make gasoline and beer money. I WAS one of those attendants who checked your oil and tire pressures AND washed your windows all before the pump clicked off selling 35 cents/gallon gasoline, with some price wars driving the price dpwn to 25 cents/gallon.

Those were the days my friend.............

I guess I'm older than dirt!
My Dad and Uncle had a auto parts store back then and even though I was only about 9 Y.O. I remember those all chrome steel, super heavy, 4 track players.

Church Key: One side opens cans before the advent of pull tabs and the other opens the bottle caps before there was twist off's. I still have one with a magnet on it so you could keep it on the refrigerator door.
