War Horse

My wife, our son, his fiance and myself went to see this movie today. Keep in mind this movie is based on a children’s novel. My son was expecting more grit and realism on the order of Saving Private Ryan, Blackhawk Down…that it isn’t. Spielberg tries to hold the middle ground between realism, grit and a fable about a noble horse and relationships with people during WW1. He’s appealing to older children, teens, adults and families.

It is directed by Spielberg, so the acting, photography, special effects are top notch. The battle scenes are first rate and elevating this horse to a majestic, iconic status is pulled off successfully. If you like going to the movies then you’ll probably enjoy it. If you only go to the movies to see the best of the best, then you could probably wait and watch it at home. The horse scenes are incredible. There was a thread on the forum about de- regulating horse meat. I thought about it and these creatures along with dogs helped us win wars, farm and tame the west. I wouldn’t advocate eating them. There’s just some connection we humans and these animals have since the dawn of man…stick to cows and chickens unless your starving to death….that’s my opinion.

I'll add this....there is more dead horses in this movie than dead slaves in Spartacus.
