Actually most new cars these days are all drive-by-wire. If the car "thinks" it shouldn't turn off or shift into neutral then it simply won't. The accellerator pedal is wired too.

I found out that the car in question had handicapped controls- presumably for a paraplegic driver- and that is what caused the problem. The system is factor installed though so it is still a warranty problem.

Fear not, I'm pretty sure Bloomberg is all over this. Sugary snack that looks like a gun, a twofer.

The dreaded "Assault Pop Tart" has arrived.

7-year-old Josh Welch was eating a Pop-Tart at school. A teacher saw the pastry and said she thought it looked like it was being shaped into a gun.
The teacher also said she heard Welch say, "Bang Bang" while he was holding it.
That was enough to get him suspended.
it continues...

I'm with you, if it is the job of our schools to protect and indoctrinate our children, then why was this child allowed to have a sugary snack at school. Was it some sort of anti establishment statement in conjunction with a veiled threat of violence?

Default ‘Freedom’ banned in Washington D.C.

http://washingtonexaminer.com/freedom-license-plate-banned-in-washington-d.c./article/2523271
Quote:
The word “FREEDOM” is among the list of banned vanity license plate slogans for Washington D.C., according a government file obtained by a Freedom of Information Request filed by the transparency website GovernmentAttic.org.
Other banned phrases include anti-tax messages such as "TAXKLLR" and "TAXRUS4" as well as any reference to the President of the United States such as “OBAMA,” “BARACK,” and “OBAMA44.″
“RONPAUL” is also banned.
"Freedom" banned in DC. I can't really say I'm surprised.

Well we wouldn't want people getting the wrong idea thinking they're free and all.

Default At least something is still legal in NYC

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323826704578354543929974394.html
Quote:
A state judge on Monday stopped Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration from banning New York City restaurants and other venues from selling large sugary drinks, a major defeat for the mayor who has made public a health initiatives a cornerstone of his tenure at City Hall.
The city is "enjoined and permanently restrained from implementing or enforcing the new regulations," New York Supreme Court Judge Milton Tingling decided Monday.
The regulations are "fraught with arbitrary and capricious consequences," the judge wrote. "The simple reading of the rule leads to the earlier acknowledged uneven enforcement even within a particular city block, much less the city as a whole….the loopholes in this rule effectively defeat the state purpose of the rule."
Now if they could get the recent anti-gun legislation overturned...

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/dolphins-armed-guns-knives-allegedly-escape-wild-005525870.html
Quote:
No, it’s not a promo for the latest SyFy movie. There are claims circulating that three dolphins, trained to attack humans, have escaped from a Ukrainian military training facility armed with head-mounted guns and knives. Could this seemingly outrageous claim be true? Unfortunately, the U.S. media has nothing on a number of international publications that publish completely fabricated tales, often to score political points. And for its part, the Ukrainian government has denied the claim, calling it a “fabrication” and a “gross provocation.”
The Russian publication RIA Novosti says that the Ukrainian dolphin program is two-fold: Training the dolphins to detect and mark mines; and equipping them with weapons to attack enemy human swimmers who may pose a threat to Ukrainian navel vessels.
Interestingly, Wired points out that some Russian soldiers are actually trained to combat dolphins in case they are attacked by them while on a mission.

it continues...
I have no idea if it's true, but it is weird.
