http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2013/02/01/man-allegedly-tries-to-walk-out-of-costco-with-24-quarts-of-oil-strapped-to-his-body/
Quote:
A South Gate man was arrested Thursday for allegedly trying to steal 24 quarts of motor oil — strapped to his body and stuffed into his clothing. Jorge Sanchez, 35, was spotted about 4:30 p.m. trying to leave a Burbank Costco without paying for the oil.
Store employees gave chase and officials said they lost Sanchez after he jumped a fence at the west side of the Costco parking lot.
Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn told CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Andrea Fujii that nine of the 24 quarts were recovered during the foot chase.
Authorities said Sanchez walked into the Costco and went straight to the oil aisle. He allegedly grabbed a couple of cases and emptied them.

Said Ryburn, “He proceeded to hide the quarts of oil in his pants, socks, and in his shirt.”
Sanchez was later apprehended near Beachwood Drive and Monterey Avenue, about eight blocks from the store.
Officials said he was arrested on suspicion of burglary charges.
Margo Martin was a witness to the apprehension. “All of a sudden, I hear ‘Get down on the ground’ and there is this man laying in our driveway.”
Witnesses thought the man was running funny and weren’t sure why. Witness Manuel Atlas said, “He looked kind of heavy and out of shape.” Police said Sanchez was also running funny because he still had 15 quarts of oil strapped to him. Police said he used a bungee cord to strap the bottles down.
Martin said, “The man just kept saying, ‘I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe.’ So they were trying to get him to sit up. Probably because he had those things strapped to him apparently.”
Fujii asked if police could give a motive for this unusual crime? Ryburn said, “He apparently changes oil as his profession and it’s just too expensive.”
When police searched Sanchez’ car, they found 50 more quarts of oil. They’re investigating if they were also stolen.
24 quarts of oil, not too slick dude.

Default Runaway mom sues (now) adult children for support.

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/02/01/runaway-mom-who-sued-adult-children-for-support-after-abandoning-them-as-teenagers-not-entitled-to-money-judge/

Quote:
A B.C. Supreme Court justice says three adults who were left to fend for themselves as teenagers decades ago do not have to pay support to their estranged mother.
Justice Bruce Butler ruled in a decision posted online Thursday that while Shirley Marie Anderson is financially dependent, her children, Donna Dobko, 53, Keith Anderson, 51, and Kenneth Anderson, 48, do not have the money to support her.
And even if they did, Butler said he’d make no such order favouring the 74-year-old mother.
“The childhood experiences of Donna and Kenneth and the lengthy estrangement which resulted from the claimant’s failure to parent the children in any meaningful way are sufficient to relieve the court from considering any moral claim by the claimant to a lifestyle similar to that of her children,” wrote Butler.
The mother launched the lawsuit against the children in July 2000 and continued the action in 2008.
Butler said while he can’t conclude the claimant “abandoned the children,” he could conclude she failed to nurture or support them, and was “ready and willing to leave them to the care of others when it suited her purposes.”
it continues...
The fact that this actually made it into a courtroom is pretty shocking in itself.
That takes some serious audacity to actually sue your children for support in the first place. The add to it the fact that she had abandoned them, wow.

This is so hard for me to understand. Why would someone do this to anyone let alone THEIR OWN CHILD.

I quite seriously hate coyotes with a passion. But I think I would have done the same thing and let that one go.

from http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/weird/NATL-Montana-TV-Station-Hacker-Warns-of-Zombie-Attack-190834011.html

An episode of “The Steve Wilkos Show” was interrupted on a Montana TV station Monday by a hacker who warned of a zombie apocalypse.

The Montana Television Network said hackers were able to sabotage the station’s Emergency Alert service of the station’s Great Falls affiliate and told viewers “dead bodies were rising from their graves” and “attacking the living.”

KRTV said on its website that the hacked message reached “several” Montana counties. The phony alert was promptly pulled off the air and prompted KRTV to issue an apologetic message on the air and online.

The Great Falls Tribune reported that the “undead” message garnered at least four calls to authorities to check its validity.

The night before the hoax, AMC’s zombie drama, “The Walking Dead” was seen by 16.6 million people, Nielsen ratings reported. The graphic novels series that the show is based on has also been featured on The New York Times bestseller list.
