Android is based on Linux which has inherent file ownership and protection capabilities. For the makers of this product to deliberately allow one app to view the contents of other apps is almost certainly deliberate for the purpose of being able to sell this "feature" to customers down the road. Keeping data segmented and protected is trivial...or would be if they wanted it to be.
The idea that this was an oversight implies they got some newbie to do this work, and given the sophistication of the OS and apps, I guarantee you this was NOT an oversight.
