Do they still do the street races in San Antonio these days? I have been out of racing for years and no longer pay attention. I know they are building a Formula One track outside of Austin.

i don't get into all that. new braunfels is just a place we go from time to time to escape east texas! my father spent a lot of time in that part of texas when my brother and i were growing up. so i guess i am just drawn back to the area.

The original Malemute Saloon- Ester Alaska. If you have ever read Robert Service- "The Shooting of Dan McGrew"- it begins "Some of the boys were whooping it up, down at the Malemute Saloon..." Well, this is it. Years back, get the owner in a good mood, he would bring the house lights down, take a kerosene lantern sit on the stage, and do a dramatic recitation of the work. Still open as a saloon when I was there last. Bouncers were functional, not decorative. Canvas ceiling, peanut shells and sawdust on the floor.

I actually have it on DVR right now. The trick is to get a slot when I can get the TV long enough to watch it. Of course I haven't even watched the season opener yet either so it's not looking good.
