Just an inexpensive RC plane with a load of C-4 on a kamaze mission.

Default cool video

its a new sport...

Pirate Plinking....

i imagine as soon as private security companys can afford a drone and its associated hardware/software, these tankers will be equipped with one and a 24/7 operation and monitoring person(s) from aboard.

You don't want to sink the first few boats. This way the pirates can go back to land and tell their buddies what happened. Hopefully fear will spread.

Default New sport.......

I can see it now, Oil companys supply an old oil tanker. People are chosen by lotto......Every one on board is armed to the teeth. Now let the fun begin. The one with the most kills is the winner and gets an extension onboard....Mo Samali's please......

Cool Video, This might be a dumb question, if it is feel free to say so LOL..... but the pirates are in the open, no cover, and they can be seen coming a mile away. What makes them think they are going to be successful, and not get blown to pieces ?

Because this is probably one of the first times the ship fought back with gunfire.

Because, until recently, I don’t think many shipping companies permitted weapons on board. They didn't want to risk the crew shooting each other over something, and thus risking the cargo.

There was that time they hit a military ship by mistake.

I was in international shipping for an oil company. We keep a ballasted tanker in the gulf just as a dummy target -- shhh... don't tell anyone (it was always at anchor - lol). As for guns? At the time, IF the Capt. had one it was locked in his personal safe and probably oficially forbidden.

We had one who was saved in the nick of time when a crazed sailor cut his way into that Capt's stateroom with a fire axe. The Capt. was there holding an empty .38 (he had no ammo) as the seaman broke through the door. The crew beat that sailor so badly he was in the hospital at the next port for four months.
