Default UFC 111 in a movie theater?

If you haven't heard, the UFC is doing an experiment where they are going to show UFC 111 in movie theaters. I guess the idea is that ticket prices will be lower, while putting more butts in seats.

$20 per ticket versus $50 for the PPV is good math on paper, but in execution, I think this will be a complete failure of an idea.

For one, you're going to be sitting in those tiny theater seats. Can you imagine 300 people standing up and cheering in a movie theater?

Secondly, most people who watch UFC are at home parties, or out at a sports bar, where you can get up, get a beer, grab a burger and some chips, etc. Movie theaters can't accommodate that.

I really don't think this is going to take off.

What are your thoughts?

I don't think it will do very well. If I want to get together with some friends and watch a UFC PPV, it is cheaper for everyone to chip in a few bucks for the PPV rather than 20 per person in the theater.

Great point about the snacks and refreshments. I'd rather have some beer, pizza, chips etc than a large box of Mike & Ike. For a couple who don't want to pay for the PPV, it will be cheaper. Not for a group of people.

Plus it is easier to tell a friend to shut up rather than a stranger in the movie theater.

If they did that around here, I think the real main event would be after the credits rolled.
"The Brawl in the Movie Theater" I think they would call it

If they got a liquor license, had a beer/food stand in the theater and would tone down the price a bit. Then I'd consider it.

I'll never attend a showing. It's just a better time all around for me and mine to order it and stay home.

No strangers, no drama or arguments spilling out in front of you and the fridge is right over there.

I don't think it will out do the attendance at sports bars who charge a $10 cover w/ a 2 drink minimum, but the UFC never sees any of that money.

I don't see it catching on personally, but I have been wrong before.

I concur with JD, I think it will be well suited for the "younger" crowds and it will no doubt, probably tend to become pretty routy at the showings, at times.

I do carry my own flask of "Jack" for self-bartender duties on some occassions, comes in handy at non-alcoholic functions and get togethers.

I need to get a flask so I can carry Mr. Daniel's fine beverage around when I get back.
