Well, sorry you didn't like it as much as I did. Not the best cowboy movie made (I think Open Range is) but I think better than the original--even though I love the Duke, it was pretty bad, especially Glenn Campbell...

Perhaps my expectations were too high; I'm a big Coen Brothers fan and, to me, this was the worst of their films. Not BAD, but just so-so in comparison to their others.

I can't argue with that. I was disappointed in the ending--It seemed like they couldn't think of anything so just ended it like they did...

To bad that the new movie is based of the novel "True Grit" (1968) by Charles Portis and not the movie starring John Wayne (1969).
The original movie did not follow the book to well. The new movie follows it closer. In the book Matie Ross tells a story about how she got revenge for her fathers death with the help of Rooster Cogburn. The new True Grit is accurate to the book. The ending that you say is not to good is how is is suppose to end. In the book she does go to see Rooster 25 years later and she is missing her arm at that point and Rooster does die.
I adore the Duke, but I think the new True Grit is better because it follows the book closer (that and it has fabulous acting in it).
