Owls are powerful spirits. The Native Americans say that owl feathers should be left to lay unless you have powerful medicine. I imagine stuffing an injured owl into a paper bag might be misinterpreted as a "Punking" by the Great Spirit!

IIRC, to the Native American Indians, the owl was the harbinger of death. that seeing an owl was the sign that someone was going die.
