I read somewhere that there are kits for the rear axles on trucks to unlock the hubs, just like you used to be able to do with the fronts. This disconnects all 4 wheels from the drivetrain. Assuming there are un-lockers on all 4 wheels.

Yeah, but that would cost some serious $$$. Like over a grand for the kit, not including installation. It would be easy on a full floating axle, but not on a semi-floating half ton truck axle.

Go ahead an tow it as far as you want. Won't hurt it at all. 18 years in the towing an recovery business.

I should ad it won't hurt it as long as the rear wheels are not in contact with the road

That is true. But, if you towed it enough, it would be worth it not to have to screw around taking the drivetrain apart every time. Turn hubs and done.

trust me, im not stupid, im just listening to all the ways. odds are, im going to just get a uhaul tandem trailer with electric brakes rigged to it and tow it off a ball hitch like everyone does. i just saw a chevy 3/4 ton pickup towing a f150 on a uhaul trailer on I-287. it has to be able to be done. i dont know why uhaul wont let anyone tow a pickup if i can see it on interstate being done! i wonder what the max wheelbase is on those trailers.

U-Haul is a PITA! My folks were U-Haul ppl and they can be unreal at times. One person has an issue doing something and suddenly they have a new company policy

anyone know the longest vehicle uhaul or an equivilant trailer can handle? anyone know the axle distances allowed on their trailers? instead of saying i have a 76 c-10...and let the computer spit it out, i'll just find out what it will take and plug that in.
