I guess it´s kinda obvious since I´m finnish, but Simo Häyhä of course! :D

Some facts about Häyhä:
-505 confirmed kills (some estimates say 542)
-He used only iron sights, because with a scope he would´ve had to pop his head up higher
-Longest kill 490yds (450m), also with iron sights
-He survived an exploding bullet to his face (search him on wikipedia and you´ll find a picture of his face)

Vasili Zaitsev only had 235 kills, altough I´m not saying he was a bad shot, Häyhä was better :p

i agree ...the finn is tops from what ive read ...his success using iron sights ,his cover techniques ...keeping snow in his mouth so a spotter couldnt see his breath. snow cave hideouts it also true that he may have had 700 kills in 100 days? i ve read that v.z. really only targeted officers.. i hope this thread makes for great conversation and insight into these great soldiers regardless of what country they fought for

The estimates varying between 700-800 count in also his kills with the KP-31 SMG (alledgedly over 200), anyways he made all his kills within 100 days (the Winter War 1939-1940). Hayha didn´t fight during the Continuation War 1941-1944 (there was a peace treaty made in the March of 1940 which the Russians broke when Germany attacked them).

Shooting the officers is great way to lower the morale and disrupt the chain of command so I´d believe this was the task given to many snipers of that era.
