I can not personally vouch for this story, but I came across it in a newsletter, "Page Nine", by Alan Korwin.

Whats wrong with Remmy ammo? Its what i mostly use, and ive never had any problems.. Federal is the ammo I hate.. I always get 2-3 rounds per box that are duds (per box of 50). The Federal .22's have a 5" drop at 100yds and tons of duds compared to the Remington .22's I buy... Im sure its not "match" quality, but I dont need to spend alot to plink.... Most of my rifles are mil-surps and I shoot the cheap mil-surp ammo outta them anyways....
