That is waaaay funny in a sick sort of way. Who wants to think of their grandmother............oh, never mind.

Though I must say I don't think I look 'grandmotherly'......do I?

We all know we belong to the best firearms forum on the internet and I'd like to keep it that way. I see way too much jabbing and poking and 'one upsmanship' here lately. Let's try to treat each other with respect and answer questions or inform each other without (basically) calling each other stupid for having a differing opinion. If you think someone's bs'ing you, fight back with facts, not insults. Let's talk to each other the way you would like to be talked to. Sometimes the words and attitude we use put others on instant defense and then the sparring begins. I have also noticed a bit of a 'clique' forming which is wonderful. It's good to make friends here and to be friends online and offline but don't use that friendship to gang up on others with inside jokes and banter that is meant to not include all.

So, come on, folks. Let's all play nice and treat each other with respect. After all, we have all joined FTF because of our love of firearms and our interest in sharing knowledge and learning. We have a common ground here. It's okay for some of us to be 'different'.

We all should have learned respect and how to 'play nice' and share in kindergarten.
I agree with everything that you said, i dont believe in name calling or insulting and i dont do it. I always stay respectful but i do tend to use sarcastic humor at times. One problem that i have is that i dont believe in just laying down whenever attacked, i never do it in real life and its hard to let it happen here. I do have thick skin but in the event of a personal attack i will hit back without being disrespectful or insulting, i use my sarcastic humor, and i see mods use this tactic all the time. I was threatened with a timeout after someone attacked me with beligerent insults and name calling, and all i did was comment back with humor. I thought that the course of action taken against me was a little hypocritical considering who the certain mod was that threatened me, because i have seen name calling and insults from him in the past. I was treated the same as the instigator and i never got out of line. If i do something wrong i will take my butt chewing, but if i dont think that i deserve it i will let it known. I think that a members track record should be looked at and judgement should be made accordingly instead of using the same reprimand as the instigating member with a couple hundred posts that is always arguing with someone. Sorry for rambling, just wanted to get that off my chest.

I do agree that this is the best forum out there, we should set good examples by getting along with everyone and stop the petty bickering.

...It's also important to call people out if they post something that is grossly inaccurate or illegal. (Like bragging about shooting people which I've seen from several different posters...) Keeping in mind for every member that is logged in, there may be 10 visitors at the same time, often young impressionable people. I think the members here do a good job policing their own. Mr. Wray has a good point about track records of members, I have found too that sometimes it does not seem to be taken into consideration...

I visit another forum which has a rule that seems to work. They allow you to attack an idea, but not a member. Arguing against something someone says, expressing opinions against an idea & particularly quoting proof that an opinion is wrong is okay. But personal attacks & name calling isn't. First time gets a private warning, second time gets a 'vacation' & third time is grounds for permanent banishment. Arguing on the open forum about the first warning or publicly denouncing the moderator who gave the warning is pretty well an automatic banishment even though it's only a first time offense.

I'm confused, so we don't need a thick skin? Those in charge will protect us. Sounds familiar.

To add to this please use the report feature. If you bring it to the mods attention we can get it resolved quickly.

I know I know, but I couldnt resist. The picture really does say it all.

In reality you are right, and to my knowledge this forum has always operated in a very professional and mature way (ideas debated, sometimes hotly, but seldom personal attacks) and that is really thanks to our great mods!

Kindergarten? The thing i remember learning there was the name of the cute blond girl who turned out to live up the street from me (Allison). Mom asked me the first day what i learned; she didn't ask frequently after that first response.
