Default They say a good landing is......

.....one you walk away from. Hard to imagine then that this was a good one. Every man survived the crash and a night in the arctic.

The c-54, tail # 2 72616 was flying from Thule, Greenland (the aircraft was actually stationed at Pepperell AFB, Newfoundland) to Alert base at the northern end of Ellsmere Island. A regular supply run for the aircraft.

The accident happened on 10 October 1952. It so happens that my youngest granddaughter was born on 10 October 2012.
Sixty years to the day of her great grandfathers crash.
My father was 24 years old then. I wouldn't come along for another 2 years.

Thanks for sharing.
They weren't flying alone.

Too cold for me.
