I belong to a sailing forum, and a guy started posting that knew nothing about sailing, but wanted to sail to Bermuda to renew his passport, which he lost, while in this country. I felt he could not get on a plane, and a sailboat was his solution.
In the next weeks, he bumped around Florida, going from one major catastrophe to another, never loosing site of shore, and very nearly killing himself, and damaging millions of dollars of property while he tried to learn to sail.
I think that board should have made it clear to him, things are learned in a correct set of steps and procedures, and anything outside of that, is trouble.
He never made it to Bermuda, and he sold his boat, and gave up.
