No before I buy it I ask questions most of the time I just walk out because it isn't what I wanted or they were asking to much for it. I don't get one of each to say I have I get them to add to the collection. Plus it's fun to shoot them.

when you have 40 of one make and model, thats collecting.
i agree with this partially. sometimes collections follow a certain trend, a certain era of firearms, historical military arms, a certain type of firearm or some collections are ecletic.
my collection is mainly bolt actions, but does include amny other types, strictly because i enjoy them. semi-autos, lever actions, pistols and shotguns.

You can never have enough guns. But be careful that you don't draw unwanted attention to yourself from big brother.

I agree with Trip. I think there is a point of "enough guns" if you have the guns you need to fulfill your needs. I have 'enough guns'. But I want more. I don't have a rifle, I wouldn't mind a shot gun. I would love an AR-15. But I do believe I have enough guns to keep myself safe and to serve the purposes of what I want guns for.

My theory is if I have too many too carry at once for SHTF scenario, then I have too many. My goal is 2 pistols, high quality AR and high quality shotgun. If I had to fight for my life I could carry all that plus the required ammo to (hopefully) stay alive. Just a theory.
But to each their own.

As I see it there are "work guns" and fun guns. I have enough "work guns", but I will never have enough "fun guns". I am working on a Mosin-Nagant, fun gun, collection that will never be finished, for a lack of time, funds, and the rarity of some of the rifles, but it doesn't keep me from trying. Finding a rifle that fills a missing slot, makes me happy, and that is what life is about.

Ruger,
You can never have enough guns! In fact as time goes on if you collect wisely, it will generate more worth than cash in the years to come. I will not go into detail but just for an example over the years I have purchased of many, two rifles that confirms what I am speaking of. In 1974 I bought one for $450.00 have been offered $2100.00+ for it several times. The Second one I paid $1100.00 for in 1985. I have been offered $3200 for it more than once. You can not get that kind of return from any bank. And they do not eat anything and they just set there and become a good investment. Yes you can enjoy and shoot them if you take care of them! The others are good for if the SHTF. They will be the best barter items you could ever want! That's my rational and I am sticking to it!
Good Luck, Enjoy and keep collecting! Just advise!
