But a little over a year ago when my wife was curious about tablets I got her an iPad 2 because the Android platform seemed harder to use for someone like her. Overall it seems to be the right choice for her but I'm tempted to try another tablet that hasn't been lobotomized!

To be fair, the iPad has been handy and reliable.

My brother in law has been a PC coder since they came out. I can't tell you how many times he prophesied the demise of Apple. Every time I mentioned anything about Apple computers... "Oh, Apple will be out of business in the next year or two."

All he can produce now when I ask him about Apple is a sheepish grin and a nervous denial about his predictions. Kind of like Obama and health care.

Right now I have a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard. It's the one built into the case. It works well.

I bought my mother an Ipad last Christmas. She loves it.
I prefer the Android smart phones over Iphones. I have never owned a tablet.

Yeah, I think Apple needs to do a redesign of iOS to catch up with Android. Android does a much better job of delivering immediate information; which is something pretty important in a smartphone, but not quite as necessary in a tablet. And they need a bigger screen.

I enjoy the handmedown iPad I use to browse the interwebs and the forum many times. The commonality with my iPhone is great; I don't do Facebook or camp out on my phone, but I like to have a game or two available for when I am waiting in line and such.

My sister and brotherinlaw both have covers with integrated Bluetooth keyboards that were inexpensive and have been very useful.

I agree that Apple needs bigger screens, the back side of the is picture, my mothers Note2 looks awful compared, my step dads Galaxy3 dies too.

As far as speed, sounds like an issue with service. My iPhone 5 on AT&T is instant, and the menus etc appear instantly

Not really speed I was referring to. More about how you can customize information appearing on the phone. Maybe I need to know more about iOS, but Android has always appeared to do a much better job of providing the pertinent information I want immediately with a glance at my screen, rather than opening individual apps.
