Default The Superhero vs. Society's Advancements

So today on the local morning radio show they somehow got on the topic of Superheros and how screwed they would be in today's modern culture. I was rolling when I got to thinking about it.

Think about it for a minute.

Superman doesn't have a phone booth to change anymore. There are no phone booths. The guy worked at a paper. How many jobs are there in that field anymore?! And who is going to put up with a "reporter" who is constantly late to the scene??

Spiderman is just as screwed. As Peter Parker he was a free lance photographer and his claim to fame was capturing images of the allusive Spiderman. Now that everyone has a camera on their cellphone, and there are cameras at every ATM, all night parking lot and half the city corners, what are his future earning prospects looking like?

Wonder Woman? Yeah, Invisible Jet. In a Post 9/11 age? I think not thank you very much. That broad is getting shot down by the first air jockey they can get to the scene.

Give it some thought and think about who you liked as kid. Could their story be told today? And how would you have to change the story to make them still a viable superhero in today's tech friendly world....

Discuss.

JD

I could see how having razor sharp claws might be an issue.

Forget about Captain America. He would be branded a right-wing extremist by the powers that be, and he would have to change his name to Captain United Nations. He would not be allowed to take on the enemies of America. He would be forced to bow to the leaders of other nations and he probably would be nutered.

Superman could work for a blogging service. He might have to change in unisex bathrooms though; or better yet, porta potties at construction sites.

Spiderman would have to be Spidey 100% of the time, thus he would have to go on welfare. No more income unless Peter Parker joined the UFC.

Wonder Woman would have to start her own internet porn pay site. Her lasso of truth could be used in many ways.

My favorite superhero was and always will be the X-Men!
I think that they would have the least ammount of trouble when compared to the other super heroes. This is of course, if you ignore the problems that have always been there. ie Causing destruction and not paying for it, having a bunch of random kids at a school and a private Blackbird.

Captain Planet might be able to fix the oil spill, but he would also be the leader of the Rainbow People's Republic of Kalifornia.

I think Mighty Thor might still do OK. But the Incredible Hulk would be sent to anger management classes.
