I have become so bored and unimpressed with COD that I actually picked up and tried out Duke Nukem Forever this week just to break the monotony in shooters. Does the game suck? You bet. However, I'd rather play a throw back game from the 1990s filled with politically incorrect dialogue than another COD: Black Ops add-on map pack right now.
I am really getting tired of Activision whoring out the COD franchise. MW3's showing has not moved my meter at all this year. In fact, the only thing I have liked was the reveal trailer's music (which was a rip off of the theme from Inception). Other than that, the game just doesn't move me at all. Heck, I could care less that Christopher Meloni and Tobey Meguire are going to lend their voices in it.
For me, Rage is going to be my single player FPS fix for this year, and Battlefield 3 is going to be my multiplayer fix for this year. In fact, Battlefield 3's multiplayer is shaping up to be better and better. You can now die from debris from falling buildings, exploding cars, and the like. The reload animations are realistic, the ammo count is in the correct numerical capacity, the weapons can be modified with a whole host of add-ons including, but not limited to, tactical flashlights, laser sights, ACOG scopes, Eo-Tech sights, red dot sights, extended magazines, enhanced flash suppressors/muzzle breaks, silencers/suppressors, bi-pods for sniper rifles and LMGs, flechette ammunition, and so on and so forth. So far only a handful of weapons have been revealed in the game. These weapons include: M16A4, M4A1, AK-74M, AKS-74U, M9, MP443, M249, M240, Pecheneg, DAO-12, G3, P90, SKS, SVD Dragonov, Mk. 11, M136 AT4, RPG-7, SMAW, Type 88 LMG, M67 fragmentation grenade, and C4. I personally think that it is definitely going to be a contender for game of the year.
