If it was a rental gun at a range it was probably suicide... has happened a few times at a local range.

If it was truly an accident the guy broke two of the cardinal rules simultaneously

Probably weren't enough warning labels and engravings on the gun.

Suicide with a rental firearm is not at all new. It has happened periodically for the decades I've been shooting. Never would hear about it publicly. But, now we have the Internet and instant news about everything.
Hope this was a minor accident.

Anybody remember Clark W. Griswald asking a casino dealer what he can do with five dollars?
"Gee, I don't know...... buy a bullet and rent a gun!"

I'm with the guy up there ^ if there were more warning labels engraved this tragic incident would not have happened.

Was the area properly identified (including braille on the room numbers)?

If it was not intentional, then some training was not done.
