There is way more to intelligent thought than mimicry.

You can teach a parot to give speaches but that doesnt make it possible for a parrot to run the country. Obama is proof.

A chip using the pathways of the human mind is an amazing feat but its still a piece of plastic and metal.

Computer programs cannot go from 1 to 2 to 3 and arrive at the colour blue then get to 4. While as interesting as artificial intelligence is its about as liekly to happen as a space alien showing up on the white house lawn and endorsing obama for 2012...

Be careful what you wish for.

Artificial intelligence will happen, eventually. Machines will have to be able to learn without direct programming and that hasn't happened yet.
