Personally I think all this fear of end times just screams how much people are searching for what only Jesus can provide. Don't think I'm not prepared with food, water, meds and the like but I'm not worried. I will be taken care of before armegedon.

OMG! You're one of those people clinging to your guns and bible?

I can just see the loony gun grabbers spouting off THAT comment to you. And in a bizarre way, couldn't those who do have religious feelings file civil rights lawsuits against those loonies? They're basically violating your civil rights by slandering and libeling those beliefs. I haven't heard of any cases like that but it is remotely possible.......

Right. Even then, as an 8 and 9 year old, I wondered how covering myself with my hands was going to stop the blast wave from burying my ass under the debris when the building collapsed, not to mention being fried by the thermal wave.

Also, there were a lot of posters like this around:

How to survive an Atomic Bomb

During the 60s, posters like this were "the thing:"

I remember that until 1962 or 1963 in my scool they were still showing that "Duck and Cover" film in classes. Also, at least once a month or so the air raid warning sirens would go off. If I recall right it was posted when these siren tests were to occur.

We also had a fall out shelter just down the street from our elementry school under the Post Office of out little town. Went on a couple of field trips during practice siren tests there and got the 2 bit tour. Post master even instructed on how to use giger counter.

Even had a grandfather build a bomb / fallout shelter in the 1950's.

I think the advent of thermo-nuclear bombs made near all on this a mute point, and thats when the schools stopped showing "Duck and Cover" and practice drills for Atomic bomb attack.

Duck and Cover...of course!

Logic optional I guess...but they had to tell the public they could do something for morale purposes, huh

That was especially true in the 50s. Your average citizen on the street really knew absolutely nothing about nuclear weapons OR what their real destructive power was. And look at the above ground tests here at the Nevada Test Site in the 60s. There were red flashing lights downtown that went off when an above ground test was being conducted. People would sit on downtown casino rooftops to watch the flash and get a glimpse of the mushroom cloud. It was all a circus to Joe Average Citizen. It wasn't until later that the delayed effects of the fallout were finally discovered.

If you happen to have Google Earth on your computer, call up Nevada Test Site and you can see the over 900 craters from the underground tests. We occasionally fly over the area and it's different to see all that.

Only partly. I'm not religious but I don't hold it against those who are.

Although I do have quite a "selection" of religious tomes I could use. Holy Bible, Torah, Satanic Bible, Book of Mormon, Tripitaka (Buddhism).......
