Thanks, Mercator. I was a tad concerned when we struggled against Latvia but I guess they were still getting revved up. I am just glad that our Kanadian media is no longer blathering on about how the most important thing is to show up and to compete and to be inclusive and so on and that winning doesn't really matter. You have never had that problem in the U.S., as far as I can tell.
Of course winning matters! That's why they have timers, finish lines, medals and so on. Winning is not everything but it is also nothing to shy away from. Our media/leaders seem to finally have accepted that it is not only OK to play hard to win, but as a true competitor and athlete, it is our duty to always play to win and to never just show up, never back down, never quit....and not just in hockey. We saw a lot of that from many athletes and many countries and it was inspiring.
