i turned 50 earlier this year. keep hanging in there! i was told once years ago, that when you got over the hill it was all downhill from there. but nobody told me it was so rocky going down that hill! and damn, it's rocky as hell!

OK. I took a drive today, all of 12 hours. Just got home. Went down through Big Sur, East from Atascadero through California Valley and up highway 5 from McKittrick. Got some cool pics (I'll post them later). I saw 5 California Condors- pretty rare sight even along Big Sur where I saw them. Saw some elephant seals and some antelope. I used my HD camera but left it out in the truck when I came in. I hope the HD pics will load OK.

See? I am young enough to still have my license!

Along the line of statins/cholesterol, etc: I'm 73 years old (not "young"), and was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic 10 years ago. I have to do my 4 shots of insulin each day to keep my sugar under control. I also have to take statins twice a day for cholesterol. Due to economic considerations, I went 2 weeks without the statins back in January, and was rewarded with a stroke while blowing my tuba in a church service. That cut the service short, which may have been a blessing for the congregation. I was Med-Evac'd by chopper to the hospital, where they got me functional again. So I have been taking my meds "religiously" since then. But I am a firm believer that my "lifestyle" contributes to the problem. I sit in my cube 12-16 hours a day, peckin' on my keyboard to earn enough "candy" to support my wife in the manner in which she likes to be accustomed, so I get little exercise. If I could walk a couple of miles each day, I believe that it would make a world of difference.

And, believe me, doctors like to be proven wrong in this most positive way.
