gunsmoke11, you're just interpreting the phrase wrong!
It means once you reach the age where your economic productivity begins to diminish, you will need to drag out the GOLD you earned and start spreading it around!

Just got back from kayaking 6.5 miles with a bunch of other OF's. On Saturday we hiked 7.36 miles in the desert again with 28 OF's. The hike leader is in his 80's. Use it or lose it.

I feel at home reading on this thread! I have a couple of years before retirement age but I dont think my knees are gonna last that long, had surgeries on both back before arthroscopic was widely used now I live in pain every day. Arthritis in my hands and just got over a bad kidney stone, but I guess I should really be thankful I dont have any other medical problems, pushing 60 and not on any kind of regular meds. I do have a case of that furniture disease "my chest has fell into my drawers" and made my waistline expand!!!!!!

I have arthritis in my hands, too. Particularly my left hand. It hurts to even clap my hands. Very annoying.

How old does one have to be to officially be considered an old fart? I get called old all the time. Heck, I think I'm looking younger lately.
Is it appearance? Age? Condition? How about if the white haired family doctor that looks like Andy Griffith actually tells you to start taking it easy and slow down?
