Default Saturday Night Specials

I am planning on going to a gun show here in KY tomorrow, and was wondering if anyone had any good Saturday Night Specials to look for while I am there.

One plan is to get a couple hand guns that i could start practicing some refinishing on. But i am also eventually wanting to look into any guns that you have liked in the past that are very inexpensive (For instance i picked up a couple of little .25 Titans a while back that i have LOVED!! - they were under $50 each, and shot incredibly accurate - nothing i would stake my life on, but they were fun to fix, and take out shooting). I would be especially interested in a small .22 hand gun.

The term Saturday Night Special refers to a something that might blow up in your face when shooting. How 'bout a gun made of sch40?

"Saturday Night Special" is a term embraced by the anti-gun left to villify inexpensive handguns. The connotation is innaccurate, unreliable, and as dangerous to the shooter as the target.

It is about as sensical as calling all imported vehicles from Asia "jap-crap" all teenage girls "bimbos", all 40+year old women "hags" or all men "assho!es". Well the last one is pretty accurate.

Buy a beat to hell used quality gun, for roughly the same price, and practice refinishing that.

Many cheapies are made of pot metal, and won't fare well with certain refinishing techniques.

Phoenix makes the best cheap .22 auto IMHO. In cheap .22 revolvers, I don't have personal experience... but the Heritage Rough Rider is mentioned quite a bit on the net as "ok".

I have always heard the term used to describe guns that dont cost very much, and are not a very good quality. Anyway, looking for feedback like AlChemist and Benning Boy shot out. I am heading off. If you think of any please post, i will check the thread on my phone once i am down there.

Well i was a little disappointed at the "junk" that was there. The did have plenty that was beat to hell, but the price did not reflect the condition, or worth of the guns. Even the little .25 FIE Titans were up at $100 and an extra mag $30. So I did not get a gun that i would risk refinishing.

I did find what some may call a junk gun (but it was new). I picked up a Chiappa Firearms 1911-22. My brother in law and his fiance are going to start going to the range with us and learn to shoot, so i wanted a big 22, that would not intimidate her as she is nervous about shooting, but wants to learn. Got it for a good price, already took it to the range with them and I was pretty happy with it today. It would not chamber with the cheap stuff, but the high velocity rounds did great.

Anybody know much about it? I will probably post another thread with some pics to get the inside scoop from the forum.

Spend the money you think your life is worth, the good news for $300 you can find a quality firearm. If you want a gun you can use once and toss, no help here.

None of these guns i am looking for (or bought) are going to serve the purpose of protection. Plus i cant find a gun for under $5 .

Just looking for something to practice refinishing, and the one i bought will be for new shooters to get started, and plinking fun for me. Anybody know of a good place to find the kind of gun i am wanting to get started learning how to refinish?

Well, heading back down one last time to see if people are willing to drop prices. Wish me luck.
