Default RIP Chief Gates

Former LA police chief Daryl Gates dies at 83 | Reuters

Controversial, hard nosed, some would say the wrong man for the job, but he did a lot of good in his time as chief in a City that didn't have a lot going for it.

His War on Gangs was VERY successful and I think it was just too NON-PC for Kalifornia, even at the time.

In any event, RIP to a man that served many!

Godspeed Chief Gates

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

He was the chief during the riots and he handled himself with professionalism and class. Any city would have lucky to have him as Chief.

I listened to an interview of him side-by-side with Easy E on the Howard Stern show. Howard pointed out that E had on a $40k Rolex and asked Chief Gates what brand of watch he had. Timex. Howard also brought up the song "F*ck the Police" and asked Gates what he tought about it. He said it was no big deal as they had a right to rap or sing about whatever they wanted. He handled himself better than most when on the Stern Show and he was respectful of everyone. They don't make men like that much anymore. I remember having more respect for him after that show. It seemed he did not play the politics that most Chiefs of Police have to play since they are appointed by the Mayor.

*respect Chief Gates*

He was a good man. I lived in SoCal during his tenure, and his son worked for me at one time. You could tell he was raised by a good man.

RIP Chief Gates.

R.I.P. Chief Gates..

As a resident of Los Angeles for 41 years, some might say he was a little brash in his ways. More liked his actions as he was very active against gangs.
Personally, L.A. needs another hard-nosed police chief to take charge and handle the out of control crime rates that plague my hometown..

Condolences to the Gates family. We have lost one good Cop !!

Rest in peace Chief.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”Samuel Adams
