Regarding the CobraJet: I thought that was a 427? 5.4 liters isn't a 427. I'm not a ford guy, but am curious.

Don't let the gubmit know....

Seems like Ford is going after the market that GM and Chrysler won't be able to touch. Great for them. A big eff you to the Car Czar! :D

427 would be 7 liter. Given todays technology, a 7 liter could probably
be street tuned to a reliable 800hp?? (That's less than 2 hp/cu.in).
Woo-Hooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

FWIW, Ford used "CobraJet" on 427,428,429 and I believe even the
351 engines.

I do not believe the "Cobra-jet" was used toward the 351 engines.. The 351 either had "Windsor" or "Cleveland" tags... The Cleveland was the better as the cylinder head ports were much larger. The engines assembled in Cleveland were more apt to be used in the Ford Racing dept.
IMO.. Ford's best smallblock was the small but potent 289 c.i.d.. Lots of torque and H.P. but yet small and lightweight.. My Dad's 1967 Mustang Fastback was a quick runner in its day !! But then again, his '56 Ford F100 Pickup was a beast.. Balanced and blueprinted 390 c.i.d. with a 4 speed manual trans. 4.11 gears with 300 lbs. bolted to the rear axle for traction.
Ahh.. The good 'ol days before these pesky computers. Back when the average guy could get major H.P. gains with just a few tweaks and such here and there..
I wish my Dad was still alive.. He could give us all lessons on Ford motors, history and origins..
