Fictional? I donno... Doing some research, looks like the military was testing similar designs...

"The AR-Four-Two-0, Developed by Armalite under the supervision of Eugene Stoner as a lighter alternative the the larger M-16. Little is known about about the project. Although tests looked promising, For unknown reasons during the Clinton administration, interest declined, records were lost, and further plans for the AR-Four-Two-0 went "up in smoke."

I couldnt find much on the second one... All I could find was the description "Sterling Model 69 with Improved Handling Grip System" The weapon is still in the testing phase and the militarys official comment is: "This weapon is classified with a strict "Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy."

Still doing the research on the other one......
