Okay, I'll play.

3:10 to Yuma. The first one was good, the remake was awesome.

The Thomas Crowne Affair. Naked Rene Russo for the win!

The Italian Job. The first one was meh, the second one was much better.

Ocean's 11. While the first one had the Rat Pack, the remake was so much more classy and didn't have that "rewrite on set" feel to it.

Cape Fear. Oh yes, there was an original before DeNiro rocked it out of the park.

The Departed. The remake was so much better.

Casino Royale. The first one was obviously meant to viewed on acid.

WELL, OF COURSE!!! when you throw in the technology of today and the "pre-" CGI, (or CGI of some), you get G-R-E-A-T HD/Cinematic/Surround Sound/Dual Outboard/Flux Capacitor/350 V-8.................

I'm cautiously hopeful that it will exceed expectations and at least come close to living up to the original.

This may be splitting hairs, but I don't think Dukes of Hazzard or Beverly Hillbillies remakes are an example of a good remake. The original shows had an innocence and purity that the cheesy, slapstick remakes never came close to representing. The remakes were all showing the T&A actress hired to shake her fanny and doing stupid slapstick humor never found in the originals. Other than the name and the outfits, I didn't think they were representative of the originals.

From what I've read in the past the original invaders where going to be the Chinese. Hollywood powers that be didn't want to offend the country that the USA is so much in debt to.

As for me watching it, I'll pass. Might watch it when it comes out on Netflix.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. I'm just saying that without the remakes, the youth of today may never even know these movies/shows existed. And I have a glimmer of hope that even if they are way off on the remake, it will in courage them to watch the originals...

I agree the Chinese part would have been more plausible, and would be a better movie if not for the politics.

Tjacobson: the goonies? Lmao. I bought that a couple weeks ago for my girl to watch. She loved it and had been mimicking sloth ever since. Two days after she watched it, wouldn't ya know, we were at the park and the local "special" school shows up on a field trip. I had some explaining to do... Lol

You have to think too. Original movies such as Red Dawn sucked. We love them because of the nostalgia, and the fact that we loved them as kids. Now were older and judge these new releases unrealistically, because we're looking for nostalgia, and new releases rarely deliver that.
Red Dawn was a kick ass popcorn flick when it came out, but we remember how awesome it was, because we were young when we saw it, and to us it WAS awesome. Same here, this generation of kids will find it awesome, then complain in another 20 years when it's remade with the Argentinians invading.

I was 31 years old (not a kid) when the original came out and I loved it and still do as an old bas+^*d of 59. I'm not having much hope for this new one.
