What sort of welfare program existed before Franklin Delano Roosevelt? The church, family and the community organizations, who were much more proficient in its administration. Now it's not charity anymore, it's a forced socialist "entitlement". Can you say, "oxymoron" comrades?

At the very least why can they not aduit the system to see who really needs it and who does not. I was always under the undrestanding that welfare was to help get over that bumb in the road when life gets hard. People were not suppost to stay on it for three or four generations.

Well for me not ever going to Wal Mart is due to the welfare low life obese scum and their goony goo hoo out of control kids that frequent this establishment.

These welfare abusing obese f**ks are commiting one fo the seven deadly sins you know. It's called gluttony. The punishment in hell for the sin of gluttony is to be force fed rats, toads, snakes and other such revolting things.

Also when I see these gluttonous welfare abusing pigs, I always think of the suffering they are going to eventually go through with the heart attacks, strokes, surgeries, type 2 diabetes, etc...

They all will ultimately pay a high price in this life and after for their gluttonous behavior.

Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw a while back.

Can't completely disagree. However, the "safety net" has become a hammock for far too many. It's time to reform the system (or let it collapse.) Like many (most?) entitlement programs, it has become a parody of what it's original intent was. It's not that it's a huge waste of money (which it is), so much as it has literally destroyed those whom it was supposed to help.

Welfare is not about helping people it's about buying votes. The welfare system rewards bad behaviour. Need more money just have another baby. We have been rewarding bad behaviour in this country for the last 40 or 50 years. Little Johnny does poorly and everyone pats him on the back and tells him good job, nice try. Then he grows up and wonders why he can't hold a job.

47 millions Americans are getting food stamps. That's one in seven US citizens and it's putrid.

Before food stamps and concurrent with food stamps for awhile there was the surplus commodities program. The federal gov't bought up surplus food that was distributed to the needy. My Dad had a contract with USDA to distribute commodities. i ran the route for him when home on leave from the Army.

Surplus commodities included cheese, powdered milk, honey, flour, corn meal canned meat and just about everything else a family needed except for condiments. The politicians in DC stopped buying that surplus food and started giving money to farmers.

The WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program came into being in 1972. For budgeting, food stamps and WIC are all tied in with farm welfare. The farm welfare programs are also sorry: 80 percent of the farm welfare money goes to ten percent of fat cat farmers and agribusinesses.

i know a farmer who gets $200,000 taxpayer dollars every year for doing exactly nothing. Every year he buys a new DuraMax and his wife gets a new Escalade courtesy of US taxpayers. He ran out of pasture this year and wanted to buy hay from me: A huge old barn on my place was full of hay from having it cut on the shares for several years: Now it's empty. i got a big chunk of his farm welfare money this year.
