In NH, sales tax is 0. (ZERO)! And we love people like rurak to come across the boarder and spend their dollars here. And I'm sure people like rurak, (and everybody else) loves to come here to spend their dollars and screw Mass out of that money. Do you know Mass tries to enforce their taxes and laws here in NH?

LA has laws that force you to pay sales tax on out of state purchases. There is a line on the state income tax form to state what was purchased out of state and figure the sales tax then add it to the amount of income tax owed.

They end up paying the sales tax when they register the car in their State

Well, they pay a tax on the car no matter where they bought it. Either way, they have to register it there. Now, if they shop Mass, they ALSO get whacked for Mass sales tax. Not so if they cross the border to NH.

So, as a practical matter, how does LA get this done? Is there some sort of checking in with other states as to what you may have bought? Or is it left to your good will? I bet if it's the latter, they don't collect much.
