Why? It would seem that the one's bringing the dog into the cab to help them drive would be the dummies.
When i had my Dakota and lived in midtown Memphis, my roomie's Rottweiler LOVED riding in the back of the truck. I would often load her up & leash her through the sliding window to the back seat anchor, just to see & hear her joy at a ride through the more ghettofied areas. Usually had to hose down the bed from all the drool (and occaisional poops, guess she got too excited).

My granddad never went anywhere without his two dogs, a doggie head sticking out either side of the bed like windblown furry side mirrors. It didn't hurt them one bit.
What's the beef?

Why?
Of course they love to ride in the back. But you never know what's going to happen when you're driving. Any kind of accident could severely injure or kill them. What's the point it that?
If you live in a rural area, that's somewhat of a different story.

true. I was thinking about that yesterday, as our new dog likes the back seat. You get hit with the dog anywhere, I doubt your first reaction's going to save it:/

I just think that people that do that in areas with heavy traffic are more concerned about their own image than the well-being of their dogs.

I can agree with you there. Now I'm really curious about the physics involved. There has to be data somewhere... I know what I'm doing tonight at work:P

I agree. And I'd be afraid my dog would say "SQUIRREL" and possibly jump out. But any accident will send that dog flying.........

In a life so short as a dog's, isn't the LIVING of the life as important as its length?
I have seen one of those "squirrel" incidents, though. The guy was on a highway and had pulled over shortly after the dog bailed. His other dog was looking back like "WTH?".
