why is it called "common courtesy", when it's so hard to find?

I was worried about you. I thought I had your phone number from a paypal transaction but I can't find it. I wanted to call you. Good thing I didn't because it was 0830 here so it would have been 0630 there and that probably wouldn't make you very happy to get a phone call at that time.

Ha! Yeah. I'm not up at 0630.

Doing fine, still waiting to hear from a good friend who lives in downtown Napa. He is the GM of one of the wineries up there so I expect that he is doing damage control at the cellar. The pictures I have seen show lots of spilled wine... The people we have heard from who live there are all OK so that bodes well.

Back in '89 everybody camped out in their yards and had community barbecues. The power went out for a couple of weeks where I am so there was no refrigeration- rather than lose it we all ate it. Lots of wine was consumed as well, as most Californians have an ample supply for just such occasions. Unfortunately in Napa there was a massive amount of loss in the wineries though. The wineries around here learned from '89 and anchor everything down (the region I live in has even better wine than Napa, but our marketing is not as good.) Apparently Napa didn't learn from it though. I still haven't heard from my buddy.

Oh man. That poor kid, skateboarding when the street compacted.
I bet he was surprised! Looks like he kept his cool though.

Seriously though, I hope you're all ok.
No tv here and ftf is the first place I've checked online after my work week.

So I guess the the question is:

What's shakin' in California?

Answer:

Vikingdad!

It looks to me like the kid skateboarding turned the compacted street into a ramp... Now he has a skate park in his front yard.

I bet that kid has more fun with it than mom and dad who have to try to drive around it...

Nothing shaking here- I haven't even felt any aftershocks all day!

Here is the USGS website page on this morning's quake- if you scroll down on the map to south of San Francisco I am located just north of the town of Scotts Valley, essentially on the red line that marks the San Andreas Fault (I am about a quarter mile from the San Andreas).
