When I was working for a dealership I was tasked with mentoring at least one intern, sometimes two at a time. With each one of them I would start off by having them watch me working, looking for them to show a desire to help, or just them jumping in and doing it (one kid would just watch and never showed any initiative- he was the only one to wash out), anyhow on a complicated job I would ask for a "Metric adjustable open-end wrench", and they would bring me (eventually) the right wrench, and I would show them the "12 inch" side on the handle anI would angrily say "Damn it! I said a metric one!!!"
Then I drag myself out from under the hood, go over to my toolbox, put the wrench into the drawer, pick that same one right back up again and show them the "30 cm" side of the handle and "Ya see that?!!! THIS
is a fukking metric adjustable open end wrench!!!"
Its usually good for a laugh when I let them in on the joke.
