[knocking on wood] 42 years and counting without having been called for jury duty.

Of course, for ten or fifteen years, few people knew my actual address. My mail went to the office (in another state), my utilities were not in my name, my neighbors knew only my first name, my cars were tagged at non-current addresses (most of that time), and my friends who did know where I lived and my last name knew better than to share that information. It was liberating. Had the Secret Service agents been looking for me, rather than my roommate, they would have never tracked me down (stupid roomie and his loud-mouthed but well-intentioned buddies). I have wondered how many errant letters calling me for jury duty may have ended up at some former or fictitious address.

Nowadays, i'm easier to find but better armed and prepared.

Thanks for the post. I'm ticked that there's NO media coverage of it.

Well, most of them were busy looking for muslims to film.

No kidding, as I was taxing to take off, I gave the dash a good rubbing and told her to take care of me and I would do the same.
My instructor said pull over here to the restaurant. I did and started to unstrap and he said " You are not getting out, do 3 touch and goes and then stop and pick me back up". We were not at our home airport. I swear I only did 3 touch and goes, but he swears I did 4 before picking him back up. He was probably right as I was too nervous, scared, and or excited, to count properly.

I soloed in a piper tomahawk in 1987, it is one of the memories that has never blurred.

Sometime I will tell you about my first solo cross country.

These last few days have been exhausting. Switching from days to nights is a butt. And working 12hr dogs with bronchitis sucks. And tomorrow I'm pulling a security detail for a college football game so I'll be in this godforsaken heat all day and jack my sleep schedule up even more.

But hey! At least I will have the entertainment of all the drunks I'll be escorting out of the stadium. And probably a few kids throwing bottles over the side of the stadium trying to hit people waiting in line to get in. Drunks and kids, guaranteed to help you pass the time. Also guaranteed to say something stupid and make you shake your head and giggle like a schoolgirl for the rest of the day.

My favorite: We'd been getting "gorilla" calls all night from the same area. Some idiot in a costume some people said and a "real gorilla" other people said. A CCP holder had almost shot him in the drive through at Jack in the box. (Scared the $;$/&/ out of the poor guy. He actually drew down on him.)

Anyway I caught the guy red handed in a full gorilla suit chasing several women around the Walmart Parking lot. Of course it ended up being a juvenile. I rather unkindly instructed the kid to take off the mask and sit on the curb on his hands and he looks at me with these huge innocent calf eyes and says "But Officer, WHAT DID I DO?!" I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing.

I told him to think about it for a few minutes and let me know when he had an answer. He figured it out pretty quick.

Maybe tomorrow somebody will top that one. If they do I'll post it here.

What did somebody forget to engage their safety and shoot the dogs front teeth out? Or are we blaming that on the Glock shooters?

Took a picture of mine and texted it to my brother, was my first permit. His response, "nice, they were able to reuse your mugshot".

When streets are under water, that also means the sewer system is flooded. Sewer systems aren't sealed, which means they're backing up.
The other problem is enough pressure can be generated in the sewer and storm drain systems to float off the manhole covers. Then as the water recedes you can drive into them, or worse yet step into them and get sucked in.

Also, water running over a roadway can hide the fact that the road has completely washed away. Again you can walk or drive into the void and die.

Your safest to just stay somewhere high and dry.

Also you have to deal with the local fauna. Rats, snakes, spiders, and every other creature looking for high ground. That high ground just may be you!
