Just watched flyboys with Sue. He's suddenly obsessed with the red baron (can't remember his real name, Ricthoven or something like that) after watching a snoopy movie.

Now he wants to learn everything he can about old biplanes and fokkers. Says he wants to build one. Oh boy.

That's not unfeasible....we have a small RC airfield right next to the sheriff's range. There's always someone selling something.

I'm thinking just let him play around with some cardboard first, then maybe get a model we can put together too. Maybe an RC to come. That would be awesome!

my father many years ago use to build the balsa wood airplanes. not the little cheapies, but those you had to cut and fit the parts and glue them together and had the fabric covered wings and bodies. he would sometimes take months building one. he did do a bi-plane once many years ago.

I used to build models when I was a kid. One of my favorites was a balsa wood one that I eventually flew. My kids liked the plastic ones and built many of them but never really caught the bug with the scratch-built balsa planes. I would totally check out the cheap models you can find online and get one for you and one for Sue, build them together. Both of you will cherish the time forever.
