i got three trenchers repaired that i was waiting on parts for. the trenchers make a small profit for the business in rentals. got one of the ride-on Ditch Witch trenchers in from rental and the digging boom is bent and twisted! customer stated it was bent when he picked it up. not hardly! then had the gall to want another one to finish the job. i told him i had no more available for him to rent. not going to be cheap to repair.
Why not do what car rental companies do? On the form at time of pick up is a section for documenting preexisting condition. Any damage not documented at pick up is billable to renter.

With a jerk like that you might offer to steal some that are more dear to him.

i keep my own notebooks on most of the equipment and keep track of existing and new damages to equipment. like i said, i can usually tell the difference in normal wear and tear and intentional misuse and ignorance. i try and keep my yard hands and drivers aware and to let me know when they see new damages and to look for problems. the sooner it's found, the easier we can back charge the customer responsible for those damages.

Haha yeah, they get pampered a bit. Most of my friends that went into business have done pretty poorly though, probably has something to do with the fact that 51% of Americans are on welfare and can't afford anything lol

so 51% of Americans are on welfare and that's a laughing matter?

they may have done poorly because they were poor businessmen?

I'm having a lazy day. Right now watching Tarzan, The Ape Man, with Johnny Weismuller and Maureen O'Sullivan.
