Groundhogs (woodchucks) are targets I don't eat. Destructive little boogers can ruin a foundation, break tractor axles, and wipe out lots of crops in a season. My dog and I got over 150 in two years a while back, and that was just on one property. Didn't eat any of em and didn't lose any sleep over it.

And yeah, pets deserve a burial.
What does your pup shoot? Special earmuffs?

It was the dog I lost a few years ago, a black lab boxer mix. He would wait until they would run, grab them by the back of the neck, and shake the life out of them. He got pretty good at it, it would only take a couple seconds. Then he would crunch the spine in several spots, just to make sure. One year, he had 17 all by himself. If I could have taught him to shoot he woulda got even more.

Here in the Northeast, we have two strains of coyote, 1) which moved directly West - East, south of the Great Lakes and look exactly like western coyotes & 2) yotes that migrated north of the Great Lakes and were crossbred with wolves, the PA game commission has done DNA tests to verify the hybridization. Those two canines look awfully wolf-like!

that's what they look like to me as well. maybe even some sort of wolf hybrid breed. most coyotes in our area seem to get about 40-45 lbs. and are pretty close to looking more like a fox than a wolf. ours look pretty much like this here in East Texas.

They are doing fine. I've PM'd Trip. He headed for home yesterday. They've been camping. (yuck)

That's what the coyotes here in Illinois look like, too.
