I'm pretty sure he will. Why? The age thing?

I don't think that will matter. I can legally buy a handgun in this state as long as it is a private sell. Plus, I seriously doubt three months will matter to him.

It gives me time to break the gun in.

He's never even shot it. It's been in his safe since he bought it.

That was my concern. Didn't know you could legally buy one. I know when I was looking for a used gun a lot of the ads said something like, "Will only sell to someone with concealed carry license or ID." But in Utah you have to 21 to buy a handgun.

in Texas, you can legally buy a handgun in a private sale if you are at least 18. IMO i think anyone at least 18 should be able to buy any firearm as long as they are legal to. shouldn't make any difference whether it's a long gun or a handgun.

random thought. i also believe that if a person is of legal age to vote and serve in the military, they should also be legal to drink.

I don't think we should have a drinking age, a gun owning age, or even really a driver's license age. I think parents should be more involved with their children and should be the ultimate arbiters of such decisions.

Alas, or seems we can't count on that.

I also have thoughts on voting, but a lot of people would scream "blasphemy". I'll share anyway.

I think that to vote, a person should own real property (before anyone freaks, bear in mind, that condition nullifies my voting rights too as I don't own land myself)

I also think that they should not be on government assistance of ANY kind, and shall not have been on any for at least two years (this also nullifies my voting rights).

And I also think that to vote, a person shall have to be a natural born citizen (sorry immigrants. Your kids can vote if they're born here though, if they meet the other requirements, so suck it up)

And I think voters should have to pass the current exam given for immigrants to obtain citizenship, or an equivalent, AND an in depth comprehensive test on the US constitution, federal papers, and the minutes of the first and second continental Congress. (another requirement that would likely bar me from voting).

Oh. And they must present a valid ID with a valid voter registration.

Just my two cents.

Heinlein had it right on who should be able to vote.

I knew I was forgetting something. Add Heinlein's requirement to the list.

Notice I say, "add it to the list", and didn't just drop my idea in favor of his. His requirement, IMHO, didn't cover enough ground.

Saw a Browning Buckmark rifle today at the gun store. Nifty looking gun, but very difficult to operate all the thumb safety and slide release due to the stock support frame- at least with big hands it is. Apparently this is built as a rifle only, you cannot convert it to a pistol. So trip, is this sort of what you had in mind for a 1911 rifle?

So the wife is out of town for the weekend and the boys and I figured to do a bunch of shooting on the property. yesterday we did a little bit before we went to a barbecue over near the coast. Today we did some running around and finally, around 1:00, I called the Sheriff's office to tell them we would be shooting (a courtesy). We go down to our range and start off with my oldest shooting the .454 Casull for the first time- he likes it. Then the younger brother tries it out- he doesn't like it so much (looks like I won't be making that trade for the SIG 220 though), then it is the Marlin .44 1894 lever gun. Then I shoot the .357 and we all three are popping off rounds. Then we figure to shoot up an old truck body we have been keeping around for just such an occasion before we haul it off to the scrapper. We all three unloaded into it and then went back to the bench where we were preparing for each of us to shoot two-handed into the truck- me with the Glock 22's (.40S&W), the oldest with the .357 and the youngest with something else.

This is when my cell phone rings. Its the SO dispatcher asking if we can cease fire and meet some deputies on the neighboring property (this is a property bordering ours, but accessible by another road, driving there by county roads its about 2 miles from us, but cross the fence and its less than 100 yards).

We set the guns down and we all three head over tot he neighbors. Phone rings again SO: "Mr. Vikingdad? Please leave your firearms behind." Me: "No problem Already done that."

Three quarters of the way there ring ring, Mr. Vikingdad? Can all shooters please accompany you?" Me:"They are."

We are coming through our one friendly neighbor's property (there is a well beaten path between the two properties as he shoots with us on our range) and ring ring Mr. Vikingdad? Could you please approach the deputies through the gate with the flag at the Smith residence?" Me: 'We are".

Now I know something is really up. This has never happened before. Well, as we are approaching the deputies, three of them, two with ARs and one with a shotty (who is beckoning us towards him) and he asks if any of us are armed "No sir." and asks about the belt holsters my boys have their Leathermans in. We get up to him and apparently they were preparing to serve a warrant on the people squatting on the bank owned property that shares a driveway with the Smiths (No surprise there) when we opened fire and scared the Hell out of them, hence the phone calls from Dispatch. Apparently they were unaware that the properties were that close together. LOL!

They were foreclosed on months ago and got busted for a huge marijuana growing operation inside their 5000 square foot warehouse and they have been squatting there ever since without any electricity (the generator hasn't bee running for a few days though) and no water that we know of since the well has not had power for a couple of months.

Unfortunately nobody came to the door, the Deputies did a full search on all buildings, knocking on doors, etc. I'll post some pictures if I can get any from the surveillance cameras on the Smith place.
