Why is diesel fuel so much more expansive than regular gas? Years ago, diesel used to be much cheaper.

Does anyone know who that lady really is in that picture?

Low Sulfur diesel (highway) is more expensive, You can still buy the cheap stuff in some places but they dye it red so you can get a ticket if you're caught running it in a highway vehicle that isn't registered as a farm vehicle. I think it has to do with demand as well. Used to be truck drivers and farmers were the only people buying diesel, rich guys who have nothing better to spend their money on use diesel trucks as commuter vehicles even though they don't necessarily need a big diesel truck.

Yup.....................

On-highway diesel fuel prices have been higher than regular gasoline prices almost continuously since September 2004, a break from the historical pattern of diesel fuel prices usually being lower than gasoline prices except in cold winters when demand for heating oil pushed diesel fuel prices higher. The main reasons why diesel fuel prices have been higher than gasoline prices in recent years are:
  • High worldwide demand for diesel fuel and other distillate fuel oils, especially in Europe, China, India, and the United States, and a tight global refining capacity available to meet demand during the period of high economic growth from 2002 to mid-2008.
  • The transition to less polluting, lower-sulfur diesel fuels in the United States affected diesel fuel production and distribution costs.
  • The Federal excise tax for on-highway diesel fuel of 24.4 cents/gallon is 6 cents per gallon higher the gasoline tax.

(Step)Mom just called from Missouri, thye had a few tornadoes. No damage. Seem to have passed. Hope all are well out that way.

There are diesel rotary engines out there. Not sure why they aren't commercially viable though. They just never caught on I guess.

Yeah we had a couple of hours of thunderboomers and rain here where I am in Missouri but it seems to have passed on off to the east now.

A coworker had a large oak tree land on his house today from the storm. Dunno the damage.

We had to get at least two inches. Water was across the road in six places on my ten mile trip home from work. I was following another coworker, wrongly assuming he would see/slow down if water was on the road. All I could do was follow his tail lights, hoping to god he kept it on the road. Another time I wish I had a camera, this time to catch the oh chit expression on my face.

No tornadoes here but it's been raining all day. I fall asleep to a CD of a thunderstorm. I didn't have to play it this morning when I was trying to go back to sleep. I had the real thing.

Didn't Mazda have the Wankel engine in the 70's?

I really hate not having a range/"range" I can freely go to. All I want to do is shoot a new to me gun and play with my SKS. It's all I've wanted to do all winter. But noooooo I've always got to ask someone who owns land if I can go and use their property, all because.....well lets face it, shoot is a blast.

They founded the company based on the Wankel, and just recently discontinued it from their lineup. We just did an engine swap on an RX8 which has a Wankel/rotary. That is a fast car to be sure!
