C3, you are an incredible guy. I'm heading up to visit you someday. I can't believe 'you' until I see 'you'.

I've shot a Quigleys Sharps. Stalkingbear has one. That thing hurt worst than shooting a shot gun. After I shot it Bear said, "That didn't hurt, did it?" I told him it did. He said, "No, it didn't." I told him I KNOW when I get hurt and that hurt to shoot. Seriously, I keep looking under my shirt to see if I were bruising. I didn't but, dang, that Sharps hurt to shoot.

First, you need to make a mold of the grips. Then, you need to make a slightly undersized version of the grips, and glue the gator skin to it, then you can pour resin into the mold, and put the undersized grips into it. Finally, you drill it (VERY carefully, it will be somewhat brittle), clean it up/size it, and polish it to a mirror shine.
When it's done, the skin will be slightly magnified, and look like its on the surface. The hard part is trying to pour the resin and get it to set without developing bubbles, and then drilling it later (I guess you could use a dowel so that you don't have to drill, but you still might have to size the holes some).

Here's the types of resin (polyester resin) you would probably use. (might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere)

Who's older? That will answer the question.
Tex,
I think you have it pretty close. I would try it a few times with some "scraps" before using the premium hide to make sure you have it right.

To eliminate any bubbles from forming you would use a vacuum chamber to suck out all of the air. That's how they do it.

"Just Like You" And I think it's right.

On another note. For future reference, I'm in the Traveler's Inn in Collinsville TN.
Love this place. Old and run down, but bed bug free, and I love my privacy. No proof of ID, no credit card. Scribble what you want on the check in card, hand over 40 bucks. Few inns and motels take cash anymore. I'll be staying here regularly when I have to come this way.
